Sadovenko Ivan О Laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine in the field of science and technology, Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine, Professor, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor in the Department of Hydrogeology and Engineering Geology

In 1971 he graduated from Dnepropetrovsk Mining Institute with a degree in hydrogeology and engineering geology and got the qualification of mining engineer - hydrogeologist.

From 1971 to 1973 he was in active military service as a commander of a tank platoon. In 1973-1987 he worked as an engineer-geologist and chief geologist at the mine design institutes “Dniprodiproshakht” and railway design “Dniprodiprotrans”. From 1987 to 2000 he worked as a senior researcher, associate professor and professor at the Department of Hydrogeology and Engineering Geology. From 2000 to 2012 he was the Head of the Department of Hydrogeology and Engineering Geology.

In 1984 he defended the PhD thesis in specialty 05.15.02 - "Underground mining of deposits": in 1993 he defended the doctoral dissertation in specialties 05.15.02 "Mine construction" and 05.15.11 - "Physical processes of mining".

He teaches the courses "Methodology of research " and "Hydrogeochemistry of technogenesis".

The main area of research activity is studying geomechanical and hydrodynamic phenomena and processes in functioning geotechnical systems with various man-made impacts of engineering structures. The subjects of his research include the criteria of water protection capacities of rocks in the mines of Western Donbass, geomechanical and structural factors of loess soil stability in the Dnipro region with the latest ideas about flow property anisotropy of the rock mass, formation of the groundwater regime when closing mining works in Central Donbas, physicochemical and gas-dynamic parameters of mine fields during their flooding, radiological parameters of the nuclear explosion zone (site “Klivazh”), thermodynamic and geomechanical factors of underground coal gasification, the parameters of geotechnology to explore the storage and gas-hydrothermal resources in Donbas, etc.

Under the guidance of Prof. Sadovenko I.O. a modern scientific school of forecasting and control of hydrodynamic, hydrogeomechanical and transport processes in geotechnical systems by using physical and mathematical modeling has been created. In these studies, the geotechnical system is considered as a multi-level object in scale and complexity of physicochemical processes, combining three-phase geological environment and on-ground and underground engineering structures.

The results of the research were decisive in determining the participation of the scientific school under the guidance of Prof. I.O. Sadovenko in sectoral and international projects. This included the RUMBUSS project jointly with research institutions in Germany and the United Kingdom, the study of the gas-hydrodynamic regime of underground gas generators commissioned by a Japanese energy company, a project to create the first Ukrainian research and educational center (REC) supported by the U.S. Civil Research and Development Foundation.

Prof. Sadovenko I.O. headed the specialized scientific council for the protection of PhD and doctoral dissertations, the expert council in the city of Dnipro for engineering protection of the city territory; he led the operational headquarters for the elimination of catastrophic effects of the landslide on the Topol residential area and negative engineering-geological consequences in Gagarin avenue in the city of Dnipro. He is a scientific adviser on the social basis of the Center of Hydrogeomechanics and Thermodynamics of Geotechnical Systems of Dnipro University of Technology, the member of the editorial board of scientific and technical journals "Scientific Bulletin of NMU", "News of Donetsk Mining Institute", "Proceedings of Uralsky State Mining University”.

He has about 200 scientific articles, 11 books, two textbooks, 15 inventions and a scientific discovery.

Has supervised 14 PhD dissertations and 5 doctoral dissertations.
